There are five Rashtriya Military Schools in India: Chail (Himachal Pradesh), Ajmer and Dholpur (Rajasthan), and Belgaum and Bangalore (Karnataka). They are fully residential schools affiliated to the CBSE, and admission is in Class 6 and Class 9. The RMS CET is held once a year, in December, and the next exam is on 13 December 2026.
For Class 6 the paper has four subjects of 50 marks each (English, Intelligence, Mathematics, and GK & Current affairs), 200 marks in all, plus a 20-mark interview. English marks are not counted towards merit. Class 9 has two papers of 100 marks each, also 200 marks in all, plus a 50-mark interview.
Class 6 is open to boys and girls between 10 and 12 years of age. Class 9 is open to boys who are in class 7th or 8th and are between 13 and 15 years of age. Seats are reserved 70% for wards of JCOs and other ranks and 30% for wards of officers and civilians.
