How to applyUP Sainik School is unique in many respects, as compared to the other Sainik Schools in the country. It is the first Sainik School of India, established in 1960, and it has schools at Lucknow and Gorakhpur. Admission is in Class 6 and Class 9, and only domicile students of Uttar Pradesh can apply.
It conducts its entrance exam separately from the other Sainik Schools, once a year in December, and the next exam is on 20 December 2026. An interview follows the written test, and students who make the merit list are called for a medical test.
Class 6 is open to boys only, aged 10 to 13 years. Class 9 is open to girls and boys, class 9 entry, aged 13 to 16 years.

Once a year, in December. The next exam is on 20 December 2026. UP Sainik School conducts its entrance exam separately from the other Sainik Schools.
An objective paper with three sections for both classes: Maths & Intelligence 100 marks (100 questions, 60 minutes), English 50 marks (30 minutes) and GK 50 marks (30 minutes), a total of 200 marks, with a minimum of 40% in each section. An interview follows the written test, and students in the merit list are called for a medical test.
Class 6: Boys Only, aged 10 to 13 years. Class 9: Girls and Boys, Class 9 entry, aged 13 to 16 years. Only students with a Uttar Pradesh domicile can apply.
The whole application is online, with one common form: the form and fee are submitted online with the documents uploaded, and admit cards are downloaded online. Application forms: Last date 25th October, 2026. Admit cards are downloaded in November and December, and the written exam is on 20 December 2026. Documents to upload: photographs, digital signature, date of birth certificate, domicile certificate, and a caste category certificate if any.
