How to applyThere are 33 Sainik Schools in India, fully residential schools run by the Sainik School Society under the Ministry of Defence. Admission is in Class 6 and Class 9 through the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam, held once a year in January and conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The next exam is on 31 January 2027.
Girls can apply to all 33 Sainik Schools in Class 6. Students who make the merit list are called for a medical test.

Girls and Boys, Class 9 entry, aged 13-15 yrs, can apply. The objective paper adds Social Studies to make five subjects: Maths (200 marks), English, GK, Intelligence and Social Studies (50 each), a total of 400 marks in 180 minutes on a single day. A minimum of 40% is needed in each section.
UP Sainik School (Lucknow and Gorakhpur) is separate from the 33 schools above. It runs its own entrance exam, only for domicile students of Uttar Pradesh, and the next exam is on 20 December 2026.
